Out Sick

I've been out of commission for the last couple of days with a nasty bout of strep! These outfit shots from earlier this month didn't quite make the cut originally, but compared to the style I've been rocking lately, they look like a million bucks! They will at least suffice to tide things over until I'm back in action, which will hopefully be very soon. Thanks for your patience, and I appreciate any healthy vibes you send my way!

Kryptonite

If there's one thing I'm completely powerless to resist, it's yellow lace! Half the time it's not even a conscious decision. I find myself immediately drawn to something, and time and time again it's that lovely combination of color and texture. I don't always give in and purchase the item, but this little body con number was a no-brainer. I adore the sheer sleeves and the low scoop back.

Good Ship Lollipop

This little dotted romper is a piece I spent very little time deciding whether to purchase. It was too cute and quirky to resist, and vintage that fits just right always feels meant to be. I'm usually not one to wear boots with summer outfits. While I think it often looks great, when it's too hot to wear boots, I can't bring myself to sacrifice comfort for style. Today's weather allowed for it, and I thought they were the perfect finishing touch for a carefree, casual outfit.

Bittersweet

At first glance, this sapphire blouse seems downright demure. Upon closer inspection, you see that part of the collar is actually sheer mesh! Paired with my trusty leather shorts, studded ankle boots and a bow belt, it strikes a nice balance of elegance and edge.

Absolutely Obsessed

The sixties has long been one of my favorite decades for fashion, music and more, but lately I have found myself positively fixated on all things from that era. Rather than adding a subtle nod here and there, I want to look like I stepped out of the past. I dream of big bouffants, serious liquid liner and adorable A-line dresses. Luckily the clean, classic mod aesthetic will probably never go out of style. I don't see this love affair ending anytime soon, but in the meantime, I'll try not to get too costume-y on you.

White Lies

Summer may be drawing to a close, but I recently found myself in the mood for a breezy all-white ensemble. I started with this new white tee (aren't the cut-outs cute?) and added some jean shorts and simple coordinating accessories.

Suit Yourself

I love the shorts suit look but haven't sported it very many times. Black on black is an easy way to try the trend. It's comparatively safe, and almost everyone has black shorts and a black blazer on hand! When I bought these faux leather shorts a couple years ago, I wasn't expecting them to be a staple, but I've been reaching for them again and again lately. With fall on the horizon, I anticipate wearing them even more!

C'est La Vie

I adore this shirt. It's one of those pieces I felt the universe threw my way as a favor -- designer label, my style to a tee, a perfect fit and only ten bucks. And yet I always manage to wear it at the most inopportune times. The bulky buttons running up the back make it uncomfortable for sitting, so of course I chose to wear it yesterday for a car ride and a stint in the salon chair. And why not pair it with my most easily wrinkled shorts! A well-intentioned but ill-advised outfit. Definitely not as bad as the time I wore it on a flight!

Opposites Attract

I love pairing a glitzy piece with something that couldn't get more casual. The slouchy t-shirt shape of this sequin top makes the combination with denim cut-offs easy to pull off. Strappy red sandals lend a little color and play up the edginess of the look. While I tend to go for minimal accessories when I'm wearing sequins, it felt wrong to not wear any, so I reached for a hat. I used to wear hats quite a bit but have gotten out of the habit. Here's to more hats and always more sequins!

The Sixties

That title refers to both my decade of inspiration and the current weather conditions. Can you believe it? When I snagged this jacket on clearance at H&M recently, I did not expect to debut it so soon. After this summer, I'm elated by these delightfully cool temperatures!

Girls' Night Out

I'll jump on any excuse to get a little fancy, so I did just that for a ladies' night over the weekend. While I've had this dress for quite awhile, I've only worn it a couple of times. I fell in love with the low back, bow detail and straight, '20s-style fit all over again. Some glitzy new earrings, a silver clutch and floral shoes complete this appropriately girly ensemble.

True Blue

I'm loving the monochromatic trend lately. While I tend to favor bold warm colors, all blue felt like a perfectly understated way to pull off the look, and the slightly darker denim breaks it up a bit. A few neutral accessories help to offset the sea of blue.
