Sixties Mix

It's no secret that my favorite fashion decade is the sixties! Without even thinking about it, I repeatedly reach for the most mod styles I can find. This outfit was no exception, but it still managed to feel contemporary rather than costumey. As for the bare legs, these shots were taken on one of the temperate days we enjoyed not too long ago. I hear winter weather is making an appearance this weekend, but I won't be here to experience it. Tomorrow morning I'm off on a sister trip to San Francisco! While I probably won't update the blog until I get back next week, you can follow my California adventures on Instagram. Until next time!

Go-To Get-Up

When I'm scrambling to get out the door on time (let's be real, this happens almost daily!), one of the quick combinations I reach for again and again is jeans, a tee, a blazer, a scarf and boots. While it's a pretty basic recipe, there's still plenty of room for creativity from bright jeans to patterned scarves.

Kansas Couture for Lawrence Magazine: Winter 2013

The winter issue of Lawrence Magazine has hit the stands, and you know what that means...another fashion column from yours truly! While I may not be an athletic aficionado, I can talk about what to wear to the big game all day long. Check out it!

Main Squeeze

I can't believe what a staple this sweater has become! The color caught my eye (surprise, surprise) as I was breezing through the men's department at H&M. Since then, it has become my go-to piece of the season! Paired with a buffalo check button-up and tie-dyed leggings, it's a bit of a madcap combination, but it felt cool and comfortable for bumming around on a Sunday.

Lovely Leather

While (faux) leather never goes out of style, this rich fabric feels so right at the moment. Black moto jackets and the like offer that fail-proof cool factor, but I'm especially loving unexpected pieces...like this ladylike full skirt!

Strike Gold

Last week I went to the thrift store for a super quick trip. While I bee-lined to the back in search of an item I needed, this yellow top caught my eye. It was hanging at the end of a rack as if it had been placed there just for me! Of course I always fall for this sunny color, but the sleeves are what really got me. It’s rare, but I love it when a little treasure falls right into your lap…no digging required! Stay tuned for lots of new outfits this week. I was already slacking on taking photos, and the time change just made it worse. But I’m back on track now, and I have so much to share!

Timeless & Trendy

Black and white never goes out of style but feels especially fresh right now. And, bright red is always a natural addition to the mix. This weekend look felt both classic and carefree!

Halloweekend

I refuse to accept that Halloween is over and plan to stay in the spirit through the end of the weekend. Then I'll move on! For those who feel the same way, I've compiled a couple of little lists --  a few of my favorite scary movies and a spooky playlist! Watch, listen and enjoy!

Rosemary's Baby
This Roman Polanski classic is just as chilling today as it was in 1968. Rosemary's psychological terror builds brilliantly, the aesthetic is eerily beautiful, and I want all of Rosemary's mod clothes!

The Orphange
Produced by Guillermo del Toro, this Spanish thriller is filled with old-school scares and atmosphere and doubles as a moving drama.

Trick 'r Treat
This anthology horror film a la Creepshow is a fun, more lighthearted watch. Though I didn't love every detail, it was thoroughly entertaining!

Cabin in the Woods
A brilliant meta-movie from the minds of Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, this dark comedy parodies and pays homage to horror movie tropes, all while weaving an incredibly original story of its own.
