Dreamsicle

This ruffled orange romper is a summertime treat! So easy to throw on and go for a warm evening out, it feels a little dressy but still totally carefree.

Vinyl Vednesday, Volume 22

Vol. 22
The Record: Real Estate, Days
The Refreshment: Coconut Jalapeño Margarita with Smoked Salt Rim

This record ended up being a bit too mellow for a close listen in my opinion. It makes beautiful background music and has a couple really special, standout tracks though. The hazy, beachy tone inspired a summery cocktail with a bit of kick. See the recipe below!

Coconut Jalapeño Margarita with Smoked Salt Rim
Rim a glass with smoked salt. Shake the following with ice: 1.5 oz jalapeno tequila*, 1.5 oz unsweetened coconut milk, 1.5 oz tripel sec and 1 oz lime juice. Pour and enjoy!

*This is super easy to make. Just slice up some fresh jalapenos and let them soak in a jar of tequila. Be careful -- it gets really hot really fast! I would recommend testing it after a few hours.

Perfect Piece

These pants are magical. They make a stylish statement, and they feel like wearing pajamas! If only all my clothing could fit into this category.

Bubblegum

When I spied this cute confection of a top, I was not supposed to be shopping! I was actually being good and returning a recent purchase. Despite my attempts to wear blinders as I marched past the racks, resistance proved to be futile. As soon as I saw the rosy color and sweet scallops, it was a done deal. My guilt has since subsided, though, because I wear it all the time!

Vinyl Vednesday, Volume 21

Vol. 21
The Record: Guided by Voices, Mag Earwhig!
The Refreshment: Bomb in the Bee-Hive

For this week's drink inspiration, I looked to the track listing of the record and immediately honed in on "Bomb in the Bee-Hive." Not only do I love bees, it also sounded like a proper cocktail name. Here's the recipe, followed by an amended version that I recommend!

Bomb in the Bee-hive
Muddle a shot of rye whiskey with a dribble of honey and a couple of orange wedges. Add ice and fill the glass with soda water. Top with several dashes of bitters. Stir and enjoy!

While this version was yummy, I realized I much prefer this combination of ingredients as an Old Fashioned-style sipping beverage. Follow the same steps but skip the soda, and use one large ice cube instead of regular ones.

Easy Come, Easy Go

I kept it super casual over the weekend for errands and a trip to the pool. Not a bad Saturday if you ask me. Oh, and I can hardly believe this is the first time I've featured these sandals on the blog! Having worn them just about every day since I got them, it's safe to say that they are my go-to shoes right now!

Vinyl Vednesday, Volume 20

 Vol. 20
The Record: First Aid Kit, The Lion's Roar
The Refreshment: Sparkling Rainier Cherry Vodka Limeade

After I chose First Aid Kit, my boyfriend suggested a Kool-Aid cocktail. We compromised on a tastier "ade"... limeade! It was like a fresh, refined version of a Sonic Cherry Limeade. So very delicious and summery!

Sparkling Rainer Cherry Vodka Limeade
Muddle several pitted cherries (side note: pick your favorite type...I've discovered I prefer Bing cherries) with a shot of vodka. Add ice. Fill glass with sparkling limeade (I used Trader Joe's brand). Add a generous squeeze of fresh lime juice. Enjoy!

On the Fringe

Fringe trim has been very appealing to me lately, but I was having trouble finding the right piece for me. Though I figured it would be too long and loose for my taste, I tried on this kimono jacket anyway. To my surprise, I loved the look of it! As long as I keep the outfit underneath nice and fitted, it still feels like me.

Vinyl Vednesday: Volume 19

Vol. 19
The Record: Daft Punk, Discovery
The Refreshment: Random rainbow concoction

Life lesson: sometimes experiments work out swimmingly (see last week's Bourbon Dreamsicle), and other times, not so much! This week's cocktail fell into the latter category. My priority when putting it together was definitely looks over taste. I wanted to try my hand at a rainbow layered cocktail, so I combined all the colorful ingredients I could find. The result was syrupy and undrinkably sweet. No matter though...I threw together a yummy alternative and bounced to the beat of this dance-y album that, once again, recalled carefree college days.

Oh La La

Though I'm not sure if a sophisticated French lady would wear this cheeky tee, I felt perfectly Parisian in this classic, casual ensemble. I've never been more into t-shirts than I am right now! Paired with jeans, they're just so effortlessly cool.

Vinyl Vednesday: Volume 18

Vol. 18
The Record: Rilo Kiley, The Execution of All Things
The Refreshment: Bourbon Dreamsicle Float

With its hazy childhood recollections, this record is incredibly nostalgic. On top of that, it inspires such a strong feeling of personal nostalgia for my college days. So, I decided to craft a cocktail inspired by a throwback childhood treat -- the Dreamsicle. I'm not big of sweet drinks, but I do love dessert. Though I honestly wasn't sure if I would enjoy the final product, it ended up being amazing!

Bourbon Dreamsicle Float
Combine 1.5 ounces of bourbon with a few ounces of San Pelligrino Aranciata soda and stir. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and enjoy!
