Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground

Dress: Target, $5 // Tights: Target, $5 // Boots: Payless, gift // Earrings: Thrifted, $1

I went for a super simple outfit (including a color palette borrowed from a certain band I adored in high school) to showcase these awesome new earrings. The look was mod in my head but ended up rather '80s. Either way, I liked it.

Lazy Days

Sweater: Courtesy of American Living // Dress (worn as skirt): H&M, $20 (old) // Socks: Forever 21, $2.50 // Boots: Wild Man Vintage, $16 // Necklace: Thrifted, $2 // Hat: Vintage, gift

Lately I've been downright lazy about taking pictures. It certainly doesn't help that I haven't been too excited about my outfits. I probably put the most effort into what I wear to go out on weekends, and yet I hardly ever document those ensembles, so I decided to put on what I wore this past Saturday and actually take some darn photos! I liked this combination because the body-con skirt and socks keep it fun for nighttime, the sweater and boots make it season-appropriate and the accessories add some charm. Thanks for bearing with me when I'm a bad blogger!

Hint of Winter

Turtleneck: Target, $8 // Blazer: Forever 21, $10 (old) // Jeans: Delia's, secondhand, $10 // Boots: Old Navy, $15

It's been so chilly lately that all I'll have wanted to wear is a combination of jeans, boots and layers with minimal regard to style. The day I wore this ensemble, I was greeted at work by a Who What Wear email dedicated to turtlenecks as a must-have trend, so I felt slightly vindicated. What's your winter uniform?

Dot Dot Dot

Top: Francesca's, $12 // Skirt: Forever 21, $20 // Shoes: Forever 21, $25 // Necklace: jcpenney, $10

This always happens to me. Whenever I really want to go shopping or need to find a specific item, I end up empty-handed. Then when I least expect it, great stuff falls in my lap. Such was the scenario yesterday when I tagged along shopping with my roomie. I ended up finding this absolutely perfect skirt and a pretty little top in my favorite color. They seemed made for each other, so I wore them out right away for a quick drink. A note to those who read this and see me in real life, I reserve the right to wear this outfit again soon! It deserves more than an hour of airtime.

American Girl

Sweater: Courtesy of Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren // Skirt: Courtesy of Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren // Boots: Target, gift // Socks: Forever 21, $2.50 // Necklace: jcpenney, $10

As a Midwestern girl through and through, I've always been drawn to the classic American aesthetic of Ralph Lauren's sportswear. Naturally, I was eager to try out a couple of pieces from the new line, Denim & Supply. It captures the same spirit and heritage as Ralph Lauren but has a more rugged, lived-in feel.

The tiered ruffles on the skirt give a playful update to classic plaid, while the almost unfinished look of the sweater, along with its neutral palette, will lend itself to so many outfits. These two pieces will be right at home in this girl's closet.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween, everyone! As you may remember from last year, I love dressing up as movie characters because it combines two of my greatest loves in life: film and fashion. Black Swan was definitely one of the creepiest (yet prettiest) roles this past year, so it seemed a perfect choice. It was an understandably popular costume this year, and I really enjoyed seeing how different people interpreted the look.

In keeping with the cinematic theme, my boyfriend went as Driver from Drive. I got to add the scorpion to his jacket, a fun project that made me miss doing art!

Igby went with a simple costume this year because he hates wearing clothes.

Did you dress up?
