Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween, everyone! As you may remember from last year, I love dressing up as movie characters because it combines two of my greatest loves in life: film and fashion. Black Swan was definitely one of the creepiest (yet prettiest) roles this past year, so it seemed a perfect choice. It was an understandably popular costume this year, and I really enjoyed seeing how different people interpreted the look.

In keeping with the cinematic theme, my boyfriend went as Driver from Drive. I got to add the scorpion to his jacket, a fun project that made me miss doing art!

Igby went with a simple costume this year because he hates wearing clothes.

Did you dress up?

The Power of Pink

Sweater: Vintage, thrifted, $3 // Skirt: Courtesy of 81poppies // Shoes: Old Navy, $15 // Necklace: Antique shop, $12

The monochromatic look is an ongoing trend I enjoy, and if you're going to go crazy with one color, why not make it mean something? As you probably know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Lucky Style Collective has been donning pink throughout the month to highlight this important cause. I encourage you to take advantage of the educational resources out there and, if you're able, donate to the American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen, the National Breast Cancer Foundation or your favorite charity.

Old School

Dress: Vintage, $10 // Shirt: Vintage, thrifted, $2 // Boots: Vintage via Wild Man Vintage, $16 // Earrings: Gift // Trench: Old Navy, $25

I must admit I felt quite costume-y in this head-to-toe vintage look, but I also kind of loved it. After all, Halloween is almost upon us, so a hint of silliness or exaggeration is totally timely. Speaking of the upcoming holiday, are you as stoked as I am? I geek out about Halloween in a big way. To get into the spirit so far, I have visited the pumpkin patch, watched several scary movies, drank my share of hot toddies and spiked ciders, and pieced my costume together. It is so close to completion, and I can't wait to share it with you on Sunday or Monday!

Mod About You

Dress: Courtesy of Shop Mamie (a couple of seasons ago) // Shoes: Forever 21, $25 // Ring: Courtesy of InPink

Here's the simple little mod outfit I wore yesterday. I thought it paired nicely with the fresh haircut.

At First Sight

Top: Lulu's, $20 after gift certificate // Trousers: Gap, purchased with gift certificate // Shoes: Courtesy of Lulu's // Earrings: Vintage, gift // Ring: Courtesy of InPink

I rarely make impulse online purchases, but I added this sweet yellow top to my cart the second I saw it. It has all the makings of something I would love: a sweet vintage color, cute scalloped ruffles and the sunniest yellow color.

Prep School

Sweater: Swapped // Cardi: Old Navy, $6 // Shorts: Fred Flare, $30 // Tights: HUE, $5 // Shoes: Old Navy, $15 // Necklace: Forever 21, $8

Though this look is more quirky than collegiate, I couldn't help but feel a bit preppy in my plaid wool shorts and cable knit cardigan. Can you believe Friday is already here? This week was a whirlwind, but I'm excited to catch my breath and enjoy the weekend ahead!

Into the Wild

Shirt: Thrifted, $1 // Sweater: Urban, $10 // Jeans: Courtesy of Fossil // Shoes: Old Navy, $15 // Necklace: Forever 21, $8 // Jacket: Gift

I felt rather rugged in yesterday's get-up, particularly with the addition of my furry jacket. It seemed appropriate for the downright cold weather we've been having. The layers kept me nice and cozy!

Longtime readers know all about my adoration of bees. My heart fluttered when I saw this sweet pair of earrings. I don't know if they're supposed to be bees, but it's close enough for me!

I love the distinctive pattern of this beaded clutch. It'd be perfect for an elegant evening out!

Both the warm color and intricate design of this brooch make it ideal for fall. Wouldn't it look lovely on the lapel of a wool coat?

Ladylike Leopard

Sweater: Courtesy of American Living // Dress: Courtesy of American Living // Necklace: Antique shop, $12 // Shoes: Steve Madden, courtesy of Lulu's
American Living recently asked me and several other bloggers to style up some pieces from the fall collection as part of their 7 Day Style Challenge! I decided to dress down this more formal red frock with a darling leopard sweater. Pretty pearls and bow pumps round out the ladylike, office-friendly ensemble. Overall, this look felt very vintage but with a modern sensibility. I encourage you to check out the other stylish ladies who participated: Concrete Catwalk, Think Thru Fashion, Runway Hippie, Blonde Bedhead, Like Fresh Laundry and SugarLaws.

Back on Track

Top: Courtesy of jcpenney // Skirt: Forever 21, $22 // Shoes: Thrifted, $1.50 // Bracelet: Forever 21, $11

Now that I have my camera back, I'm going to be playing catch-up this week! Let's kick things off with this outfit from awhile back when it was much, much warmer. Not that I'm complaining about the current weather of fifties and rain. I actually love it and am taking full advantage with a hot beverage and movie on the couch. What else am I loving? This full faux leather skirt! Can't wait to wear it more. Oh, and sorry for the crazy shadows. If memory serves, the sun was setting while I took these shots.

The winner of the Go Chic or Go Home giveaway is Jessica. I will email you shortly about claiming your prize. Congratulations!

It's Oh So Quiet

Top: Michael Kors, thrifted, $3 (similar style) // Leggings: TJMaxx, $5 // Flats: Gift (similar style)  // Scarf: Courtesy of Lucky and Loft

Sorry for the silence around here! Tomorrow I will reunite with my camera, and all will be right in the world. Until then, here's a casual look from about a month ago that didn't make it to the blog. Happy Friday! Hope you have some wonderful weekend plans ahead.

Snippets

I'm without a camera at the moment, so here is today's outfit in bits and pieces. I'll have to wear it again sometime to give it proper documentation. Hope you're having a wonderful week!

Favorite Tee

Shirt: TJMaxx, $13 (similar style) // Jeans: Urban, $28 (similar style) // Shoes: Target, $12 (get them here) // Bracelet: Forever 21, $11

Though I'm not much of a t-shirt person, I just can't get enough of the shape and cute print of this one. I actually wear it quite often -- usually on days I feel like being comfortable and a little lazy -- but I realized that I've never shown it on the blog. I'm not wearing it right now, but I am feeling mighty lazy, so it seemed an appropriate day for its belated debut.

Story of My Life

Top: Forever 21, $10 (similar style) // Jeans: Urban Outfitters, $28 // Shoes: Lulu's, $28 (similar style) // Necklace: Courtesy of InPink (enter the giveaway!) // Belt: Thrifted, $1

It was not until the self-timer had ticked down and my camera began to snap away that I realized I didn't have my shoes on. It's been that kind of week! I figured I'd just roll with it for the first round of shots, and then I got my act together. Thank goodness Friday is here! As for the outfit, isn't this necklace badass?

Keeping it Simple

Dress: Forever 21, $25 // Shoes: Forever 21, $26 // Necklace: Forever 21, $6 // Glasses: Shop in Austin, $18

Busy days call for extra easy ensembles, so yesterday (while running late to work) I tossed on this comfy jersey dress and a few quick accessories including some glasses to hide behind. My outfit and my outlook are both a bit better today.
