A Clean, Well-Lighted Place

Blouse: Ann Taylor Loft, second hand, $15 // Jeans: Urban Outfitters, purchased with gift certificate // Shoes: Payless // Earrings: Forever 21, $7 // Bracelet: Courtesy of LOFT // Jacket: Collection via TJMaxx, purchased with gift card (see below) // Shoes: Payless

My brain is too fried to come up with transitions, so here is my random list of thoughts:

-It feels a little wrong to use a literary title for a post that has no relation whatsoever to the story, but what can I say? Hemingway is better at coming up with titles than me, and it was the first thing that popped into my head upon assessing today's neutral ensemble.

-This shirt does not fit that well, but I loved it too much to pass up. I decided to embrace its looseness wholeheartedly rather than trying to tuck or cinch. It looked best with skinny jeans, so I wore them even though I wasn't supposed to (at work).

-The rainy day was much cooler than I expected, so my faux leather jacket was definitely my best friend both inside the office and out.

-Ever since I chopped my hair off, all I've wanted to wear is huge earrings. After sporting the same pair pretty much every day, I finally got a few more pairs from Forever 21. This is one of them.

That's all for today!

You look amazing with the short hair + long earrings combo! And I love that jacket on you.

Amazing shirt; love the ruffles in the front.

I have something similar but have never figured out how to actually wear it; the ruffles tend to overwhelm.

I really like the last photo, it shows the lovely color and ruffling of the shirt. And isn't it interesting how your style is affected when you changed a little something, like cut your hair super-short? I actually think I've become a little more "daring" after I cut off all my hair. But no earrings for me, no piercings!

Have you checked out TJMaxx jewelry section? I just picked up some amazing "statement" necklaces for $15-$25 each... not bad! JCrew has some similar for $60 and up so, it was such a score :)

This look is gorgeous. Even though it's fairly neutral there isso much texture and interest going on. It has a bit of a romantic, elegant feel, and looks just perfect on you. I am totally loving the daring pixie!

The last photo is gorgeous, long earrings do look best when your hair is so cute and short.

It's always okay to use literary titles, and the title completely made sense to me in relation to your look! Very clean and well-lit. :)

I agree--totally okay to use literary titles, especially Hemingway because all of his titles are brilliant.

Can I just tell you how much I adore this haircut on you?! I have to admit, I was one of the ones who voted for you not to chop off your hair a while ago, but you really look fabulous with short hair too. I don't think you can go wrong.

Thanks for such a great blog, too. You're one of my absolute favorites.

For the past couple of days I have reeeally been wanting a pair of gray jeans. I know they were cool because of Sienna Miller like three years ago, but I want a pair now. You think it might be the weather we're having?

Also, I used to work at A Clean Well-Lighted Place for Books bookstore in San Francisco. Isn't that just dandy?

Love it. And I totally understand about the big earrings with short hair! Whenever I chop my hair off I feel the same compuslsion!

I totally do the same thing with earrings now that my hair is short. They get to be in the spotlight so much more than they ever did when my hair was longer. I love this pair, and they go so nicely with that blouse!

Wow I LOVE this outfit!! it's so light and airy! Meanwhile, I keep seeing you wear all these cute shoes from payless, but I can never find them in store and online. Do you get them from work before they release or something? I've got shoe envy!

Any Payless shoes I wear that are no longer online or in store have already come and gone. These ones are from a couple years ago. Payless.com gets new styles a lot, so it's good to check often. Hope this helps. :)

Hi from Australia! I cut my hair super short a couple of years ago (a la Jean Seberg and Mia Farrow) and ever since then I too have been obsessed with big earrings. Hahaha! Must be something to do with framing the face or perhaps keeping the look feminine. Who knows?
