Making My Marc

Shirt: Marc by Marc Jacobs via Gilt Final Sale, purchased with credit // Jeans: Tilt via Plato's Closet, $18 // Shoes: alice + olivia for Payless, $20 // Earrings: Target, $5 // Rings: Forever 21 and courtesy of Accessorize

I know I've reiterated it again and again, but I don't really care much about designer clothes. The main reason for this apathy is that I'm all about shopping on a budget. That doesn't mean I don't admire or draw inspiration from designer garments. And, if given the chance to snag a designer piece within my means, I'll jump on it! There is a certain level of quality and artfulness that comes with designer clothes.

So, when Gilt had a super sale on Marc by Marc Jacobs, I knew I had to get something! This quirky yellow top with basket-weave details was one of the items left in my size, so I grabbed it on a whim. It's pretty big on me, but I figure the A-line, trapeze-y shape kind of masks that. I'm still glad I got it. Do you own designer pieces? Which is your favorite? Or what is your dream purchase?

Oh, and if you haven't joined Gilt and would like to, click here.

You look cute. Love the hair! yellow is great for the spring/summer! It really suits your skin tone. I buy designer when i can afford it. I'm from Dallas and we have great consignment stores where I've found DVF, fendi, etc. for cheap. But, we have last call stores too (Neiman's and Saks) my recent purchase Rebecca Taylor romper, my favorite purchase strappy prada shoes from Ebay $99 and thrifted Ralph Lauren leather moto jacket for $30.

Your hair looks amazing!

My dream purhase would be an Hermes Kelly bag.

I keep trying to convince my husband that it would be an "investment" but so far he's not buying it.

Great outfit! I do enjoy buying designer shoes and bags. When it comes to bags I'm a sucker for LV and my recent shoes have been Via Spiga ( bloomingdales sales rack was so good to me) Oh, I almost forgot coach bangles.. At the outlet of course.. Haven't spent more than $30 on those though.

That top is a great look on you. Love it with your new hair.

I don't have much in the way of designer wear. My favorites are my Marc Jacobs leather bag ($12), my Theory black silk blouse ($30), and my Ralph Lauren oversized professor blazer ($5), all thrifted.

So pretty the details and the color are so amazing!!! As for my designer doodads I have a couple DVF pieces. And I wish I had some designer shoes; especially this pair of miu miu teal espadrilles.

your outfit is adorable! i buy what i like...unfortunately, i do NOT own designer pieces, except for a few pair of shoes (purchased at outlets) and scarves.

My dream designer purchase would a black 2.55 Chanel bag. I do not buy purses very often (i use them til i literally break the handle) and i know it would be a great investment piece. :)

that top looks fantastic on you! I love the color and the detailing.

I agree - sometimes the quality of designer clothes can't be beat - you really see that when you compare with the collections designers to do the big, budget chains like H&M. Often still lovely designs, but the fabric and construction are nowhere near comparable.

Love the beautiful blouse, it is fantastic, and I agree that the size too big is not an issue. The pieces you pick out are so bold, I love them!! And I hope you don't mind me asking... I'm working on getting appropriate items to wear under clothing, slips and such, and am wondering what you wore under this? Looks like the cut out came down pretty far.. I really need some help with getting my summer clothes to look polished! Thanks Katie!!

p.s. I only know designers from seeing runway shows style.com. I wouldn't even know where to buy anything designer. I'm like you, thrifted items comprise 90% of my wardrobe so designer doesn't translate except inspiration.

Love this yellow on you. Still so in love with your hair. My dream purchase is probably a designer bag. Probably Burberry or Chanel. I figure a bag would be a good designer purchase because I could wear it all the time!!

I, too, shop on a budget. So I know exactly what you mean.

I just bought a pair of Michael Kors trousers and it's the first thing I've ever got that's designer. They were on sale and perfect! I agree with you totally about being too frugal to splurge on designer items.

I love the top! :D

My budget doesn't allow for any designer splurging, but I love getting inspiration from designer pieces! If I could, I think I'd buy a Chanel purse and dress! :)
