The Livin' is Easy

Top: Free People via TJMaxx, gift // Shorts: Relic from high school // Shoes: Chinese Laundry via 6pm.com, $10

All of the sudden it feels like summer around here! I barely left my front porch yesterday, so I didn't feel the need to get too terribly gussied up. A tank and cut-offs did the trick. I've had and loved this striped top for years, but it feels especially relevant this season. I'm glad I hung onto it. Speaking of which, I've been trying to pare down my closet, and I'm having the hardest time! I never know what to get rid of and what to keep. Generally speaking, if I haven't worn it in ages, it makes sense to let it go. But I "rediscover" stuff all the time! Do you guys have any tips or tricks for cleaning out your closet?

omg i have the hardest time, like you, cleaning out my closet! i want so badly to stick to that "havent worn it in a year, get rid of it" rule but then i think of a skirt or pants it would look wonderful with!

I keep anything interesting, unusual and/or that fits perfectly. I'm old enough to have some things in my closet come back into style (eeps!) and have been pretty happy with what I kept.

that tank is adorable!

the only stuff i donate: stuff i've replaced because it's worn out and stuff that does not flatter/fit well. or if it's beyond repair. everything else i keep!

you look so summery bright in your cute tank and adorable shoes!!
uhmm i always try to think really hard about whether i would realistically ever wear that piece again or if it just doesn't look very good anymore.

Usually when I'm cleaning out my closet I try to think about whether or not I'd actually wear what I'm getting rid of. But it sucks because there are plenty of times where I totally regret getting rid of something! I'm like the opposite of you!

When I have to clean out my closet I just grin and bear it. It sucks but I can't keep everything. I usually get rid of stuff I haven't worn in a year and never look back.

Will you do a post on your methods for cleaning out your closet? Or share any good ideas you have? It'd be mega-helpful.

Hot damn I love that top. I know they won't have it but I may just have to check out my local TJ.

What a cool photo shoot! I love it! You also look really tan... kinda jealous over here in my white skin. :-)

I put the clothes that I'm tired of in a box, and keep it for a year or so. Then I can rediscover it the next season.

I've definitely erred on the side of clearing things out lately, which means that I have gotten rid of a lot of good things that I wish I still had!

I love this outfit, too. The stripes, the sandals, the colors...thank goodness for summer!

My mantra is: something new comes in, something old goes out!

I have such a hard time cleaning out my closet. I never want to let go of anything, especially since I've occasionally gotten rid of things and totally regretted it later. There was this one little salmon-colored dress with a 50s silhouette, a scalloped hem, and this cute white embroidery. I gave it away because it was "too short" and now that I wear short dresses all the time I can't believe what i did!
